I wrote a silly little list for 90&9.com—Top Ten Things Said to the Single Church Girl.
I got a kick out of writing it, so I hope some folks get a kick out of reading it. And I wonder . . . what kinds of things are said to single church guys? "Will you marry me?" Bwahhahahaha! Due to their scarcity, I wouldn't be surprised. When supply is low and demand is high . . .
(sigh.) It's the age we live in.

I loved your article! I could SO relate! Mind if I steal some of your answers? Thanks, I knew you wouldn't!
I was about to email you and tell you how I was sooo amen-ing you the whole entire time!
It kills me how people come up out of the blue and want to "encourage you" that the right guy is out there when you don't even care! Then when you tell them that you aren't even concerned about it at the time, they act as if you are blashpheming the Holy Ghost or something.
I quickly remind people, Paul never married and look how well he turned out.
It's great! I totally understand. More than you'll ever know! LOL I think I had 10 ladies approach me at church this week. OH Jeni you’re such a nice attractive, smart, classy young lady who loves the Lord. Why on earth aren’t you married? What about his guy? What about that guy? Bro. So and So is handsome! What they don’t realize is that you’ve grown up with these guys and know them much better than one would think!
So here is my top ten list of responses as to why I’m not hooking up with bro so and so:
10. He’s 18
9. He’s 49, balding and has 4 children older than I am!
8. He’s kissed all my friends
7. He lives with his parents
6. He doesn’t have a job
5. He never has a job for more than 3 months
4. He just prayed through 30 seconds ago
3. He IS my brother!!!!
2. He’s too short, tall, fat, skinny, annoying, unattractive, too attractive, bad personality – NOT MY TYPE!!
1. He’s not the one for me!
Love ya girl!
Amen! I read your article and it is all so very true. I can totaly relate. And, Jeni, I too have some of those answers! Thanks ladies for actually voicing what many of us are feeling!
Thanks, ladies. It's always good to know you're not alone! :-)
Oh yeah I CAN relate! I read your article and thought I wrote it! Two comments I randomly hear from older ladies at my church go something like this:
"Warm hands, cold heart, stinkin' feet and no sweetheart!" or my favorite reminder, "Better to be single than to wish you were."
I never have determined why people need to justify your single-state randomly when you haven't even complained about it to them! It is most amazing.....
Reading this article on ninetyandnine.com had me totally cracking up. It seems that if you have no man or kids by age 18 you are definitely an OLD MAID!
