Grrr . . . I don't even know the band director. And he barely knows I exist! Those are the givens.
But this morning I was doing my usual building hop (from Elementary to Middle School), bustling towards the Middle School office to drop off my lesson plans for the week and make copies. Then I spotted him. Bam. He was on his way out, I was on my way in. Our paths were to cross, period. I looked up, smiled, cheerily said "Good morning," and kept walking. (I wasn't about to stop and try to strike up some kind of mundane conversation; he probably had things to do, and so did I.) He did the exact same thing in kind. Big deal, right?
It wasn't until after I put my plans in the principal's box and stopped at the copier that it hit me. A delayed adrenaline rush that caught me off guard. An irrepressible smile. It was him! It was him!
And this is what I hate. That such an infinitesimally small, insignificant nothing can cause me to respond this way. This has got to stop. This is ridiculous.

Ugh! I hate it when that happens too! But, This too shall pass!
You made me think of "I Love Lucy" when Ricky Ricardo often would say to Lucy "that's so ridiculous"-- well if the chance "paths crossing" happens again you can say - "we've gotta stop meeting like this do you like chai tea?" Bam! It's out there! No hee-hawing around... some things are just like that - now the ploy is You're not really "asking him out" or "into your life"... if the fish 'aint biting you can make it a game - the next chance "paths crossing" you can ask him does he like something else, and so on & so forth... it's not that difficult - being a friend
its fun to have those heart-dropping-in-the-stomach moments, it makes life that much more interesting. I like to think that we never know what is going to happen. (And note that I didn't say we never know what we are going to do.)
And also, "yikes"-- my foot.
kim, yes . . . it shall pass. It always does.
philly-g, not difficult being a friend, truth. But I probably won't ask him if he likes chai tea out of the blue. It might be too forward. lol.
kwoya, yes, it makes life more interesting, good point of distinction on the not saying we never know what we're going to do, lol, and okay, granted, "yikes" may have been a fakely prudish overreaction, but closets? They don't lock from the inside. Touché. :-)
i desperately wish i could see of a picture of "his musical hotness". don't wait til the wedding to send me one!!
who needs locks with a cleverly placed broomhandle?
snb, you're reminiscent of my fellow co-workers! One came up to me during inservice along with another teacher and said,"We were discussing how beautiful your kids would be!" Funny to think about weddings and kids when there is one important element woefully absent at such an early stage: His acknowledgement of my existence. lol.
And Miss K, I surrender. I was trying to match you wit for wit, trying to continue beating you at your own game, but you proved too worthy an opponent. Alas, I acquiesce. A "cleverly placed broomhandle" should not be so easily overlooked.
jody, (sigh) you are absolutely right, and I, of all people should have known that since I have been a victim of googling gone awry before.
I guess because my audience was bigger the last time . . . but you never know. That would be truly mortifying, if not hilarious. I really need to be more careful.
The only thing I can think of to do is delete any posts that mention my full name. (I got a little too excited when I first started the blog talking about graduation and getting a job soon after.) Thanks for the heads up!
