I would prefer to downplay it and stay at home and sulk, (ever since 25, my outlook has become increasingly drear) but my pals won't let me.
They've taken it upon themselves to host a sushi dinner for me (since I like sushi and their wives are respectively Japanese and raised in the West Village). Awww, my pals are so sweet.
Perhaps I can console myself with the fact that people don't often think I'm as old as I am. I used to hate it but as post-twenties looms closer and closer, I appreciate it more and more.
However, I need to stop thinking that post-twenties is some kind of death sentence. It's absurd. Despite my melodramatic ideas about how things should be, I know that, ultimately, life goes on.

you know, lots of people seem to take 25 hard. i won't tell you what i was thinking, just in case you haven't thought of it yet and it makes you even more cranky about it. but i'd go back to 25 any day of the week!
I know! I don't know what it is about 25. It's like, the definite midpoint. The last year you can with any semblance of truth claim "early twenties."
25 was bad. Then I kind of took 26 in stride. I was like, "Okay, I'm in my mid-twenties now. I'm still young. What?" But now that 27 is around the corner, I'm like "Noooo!" lol. If someone had a baby on my birthday, I'd be 30 before that baby is in Kindergarten!
But whatever. There's nothing wrong with turning 27 or even 30. I know I'm being melodramatic and I know I need to cut it out. I'll be just fine. Besides, I'm having sushi and probably going to treat myself to a pedicure, and my pal's wife is going to make me a chocolate on chocolate cake. What can top that? ;-)
