But when you're completely on your own, it's not that cute anymore. You don't have the money to buy processed microwaveable junk or eat out all of the time. I'm learning that "I can't cook" metamorphoses into "I can cook" (or even "I must cook") when your bank account takes on a tendency to deplete with head spinning speed.
I got this ingenious idea. Tortellini, ham, onions, tomatoes, and mushroom alfredo. I sauteed the onions, ham and tomatoes in some olive oil and butter, and added it to the tortellini. I then dumped in a jar of mushroom alfredo and mixed well. I popped some garlic bread in the oven and opened up a bag of salad, and voila! A cooked dinner by the I-can't-cook girl.
Picture proof. Bam!
My tortellini-ham-tomato-mushroom-alfredo creation
My creation on my yellow plate and sunflower placemat!
A pretty little girl from church eating my creation. It was edible! Hooray!
And now, a message to Mr. Right: If you're out there reading this, I can cook now! Now you have no excuse not to waltz into my life. Thank you. Disclaimer: This doesn't mean I've transformed into Betty Crocker . . . just be content that I can produce things in the kitchen without causing the smoke detector to go off.

if you set your expectations low enough, you'll never be disappointed ....
girl, we should get the people from our blog group and have a lil recipe swap. i am the QUEEN of lazy but awesome recipes!!
Yet. The smoke alarm hasn't gone off yet. Mine still goes off and I've been "practicing" cooking for 8 years now.
oooh! also try the pre-cheese-stuffed tortellini from kroger's or something in the refrig part of the italian aisle. One pack was like $4.99, but it made 2 huge meals, and I just browned burger and put it all with spag sauce. Really really good.
b, come on, man, cut me some slack. I've gone from complaining that I can't cook to actually doing something! I know my little disclaimer at the end may have been a little disheartening, but this is a step-by-step process, youknowhaimsayin? I never said I'd NEVER be Betty Crocker one day, it's just that I'm not there yet. Not burning stuff really is a big step for me, you don't even know. I'll make a tiny confession: the garlic bread was a little crisp. Not burnt, though. :-)
snb, I was thinking the same thing! I remember you posting something about some knockout chicken you made. Perhaps we could start a group blog dedicated to our creations!
Yay for cooking! That looks really, really good.
Liz, I was going to buy the frozen kind, but you know . . . $4.99 vs. $1.50, what could I say? :-)
And muffin, thank you very much. It tasted decent enough, but I was having doubts about its looks. It's all in the presentation, so they say.
i promise we have the same mind. i was just getting ready to post about my lack of savvy in the kitchen....
haha, i am overcoming too!
Sure wish I was your neighbor....the one that you invite over to dinner on occasion. *smile* Looks delish! Congratulations on your first home-cooked meal!
